Q. Why is it called Bamboo?
A. The name represents two metaphors.
- Bamboo is the fastest-growing plant in the world. Bamboo seeks to catalyse dynamic growth in our students.
- Bamboo is renowned as a versatile raw material. Bamboo empowers its students to build their lives into something meaningful - as confident, motivated and aspirational young people.
Q. How did Bamboo come into being?
A. Bamboo is a project of its umbrella charity the St Paul’s Centre which also runs the award-winning SPEAR course; an employment preparation programme for 16-24’s in long term unemployment (see www.spearcourse.org for more details). The Bamboo programme has been developed as a response to the success of SPEAR and a desire to see its outcomes replicated with young people approaching school-leaving age.
Q. How does Bamboo secure funding?
A. Bamboo is a project of The St
Paul’s Centre charity (Charity Number 1100885) which relies
on the generosity of individuals, trusts and corporates to
provide the financial resources needed to work with
disadvantaged young people. These contributions enable
Bamboo to offer the programme at a significantly reduced
cost to schools who are required to cover only a proportion
of the running costs.
